Our cabins are located on 61 acres with .5 mile on Big Helton Creek. The fly fishing on Helton Creek offers some of the best in North Carolina. The stream is stocked regularly with several fishing holes stocked on our property. Guests can also hike the many trails on our property, which rises to an elevation of 3200 feet. West Jefferson (about 12 miles from us) is a quaint mountain village with both modern conveniences and old-time charm offering several good restaurants, a great coffee shop (Bohemia) and several art galleries. Bohemia is the retail outlet for the New River Winery, so you may now have coffee or sample the wonderful wines of Ashe County while you are there. There are four other wineries within an hour's drive from the cabins. And both Boone and Blowing Rock are 30-45 minutes away for more shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Mountain Aire golf course is a stunning public course and is only 20 minutes away. The New River is just 2 miles from the cabins and includes access to fishing, tubing and canoeing. The New River state park has just opened a new visitors center which is 10 minutes from the cabins. There are many back country roads for hiking and biking near the cabins. We are also 20 minutes from the Virginia Creeper trail, which offers biking and hiking for all levels. Mt. Rogers National Recreation Area is just 20 minutes from the cabins. You can hike at either White Top or Mt. Rogers which are part of the Appalachian Trail. At Massey Gap at Mt. Rogers you can see wild ponies along with a host of other wildlife. Other attractions include Grandfather Mountain, Tweetsie Railroad, Valle Cruces, the Barter Theatre in Abington and all the area ski resorts (Appalachian / Beech / Sugar / Hawksnest) within an hour's drive. There are several fly fishing guide services available in the area for trout fishing on Helton Creek. These include Tri-State Angler and River Girl Fishing Co. Ashe Massage Center is available to provide on-site massage therapy when requested. You can also go to the Ashe County Agri-Cultural Tourism website for more art galleries, farms, restaurants, and vineyards to visit during your stay at Zydeco Moon.
